Durban woman fakes kidnapping and demands ransom from her husband
A 47-year-old woman from Phoenix, Durban has been arrested for allegedly faking her own kidnapping and demanding ransom from her husband who is a businessman.
According to KwaZulu-Natal provincial police spokesperson, Col Robert Netshiunda, police received a complaint on Monday of a woman who was allegedly kidnapped on Clay Field Drive in Phoenix.
It was reported that the woman had left the business premises to use a restroom at her home a short distance away when the incident happened.
Her husband received a phone call from her stating that she was kidnapped and requested that he deposit an undisclosed amount of money for her release. He later received another call from a man who threatened to harm the woman if the money was not paid.
After thorough investigations, the police discovered that the woman’s version of kidnapping was fake and subsequently arrested her on Tuesday. She has been charged with perjury and is expected to appear before the Verulam magistrate’s court on Wednesday.
