Foiled Kidnapping Attempt in Mozambique: South African Nationals Arrested.
In a dramatic turn of events, two South African nationals have been arrested in Maputo, Mozambique, for their alleged involvement in an attempted kidnapping. The incident unfolded on Wednesday morning when a gang of five individuals targeted a businessman of Asian origin at his shop on Karl Marx Avenue. However, their plans were thwarted as local people reacted quickly, leading to the intervention of the police.
According to reports in the local daily “O Pais,” the two South Africans apprehended were part of a gang of five individuals. The remaining three members of the gang are currently at large and being sought by Mozambican police. The incident occurred when the victim was in his shop at Karl Marx Avenue in the city center of Maputo when one of the accused tried to forcibly take him to their nearby vehicle.
Thanks to the swift response of residents, who reacted angrily to the criminals’ actions, the situation escalated quickly, leading to the arrival of the police. The two South Africans were caught red-handed, attempting to abduct the businessman of Asian origin.
Police spokesperson Leonel Muchina provided a statement to reporters, saying, “We caught them red-handed when the individuals were trying to kidnap a Mozambican of Asian origin. The victim was going to his place of work when one of the accused tried to drag him into their nearby vehicle for a quick getaway.”
While the two arrested men deny the accusations, claiming they were merely waiting for an acquaintance on the street, the police are continuing their investigation to gather evidence and neutralize the other three members of the gang.
