The revelation came to light when Brutus Malada, a senior researcher and consultant who worked on the book, exposed the author and accused Mashele of deceiving the public and the publisher, Johnathan Ball. Moreover, Mashele resorted to bullying tactics by unleashing lawyers on Malada, attempting to intimidate him into retracting his factual account.
The ANC in Gauteng has called for transparency from Mashaba regarding the creation of his “unauthorised book, The Outsider” They have also urged Jonathan Ball Publishers to withdraw the book and make the necessary corrections. By failing to take action, the publishers risk endorsing a fraudulent and compromised product, tarnishing their credibility.
