Israeli gang leader and seven others arrested in Bryanston, in Johannesburg.
Interpol South Africa conducted an operation in Bryanston, in the north of Johannesburg, on November 17, 2022, and arrested a wanted Israeli gang leader and seven others and seized 12 firearms, including five assault rifles, seven pistols, $40,000, and three suspected stolen motorcycles.
Colonel Athlenda Mathe, a spokeswoman for the South African National Police, stated that Israeli authorities said that the suspect is a member of a notorious gang that deals in drug trafficking, extortion, and other crimes.
The police said that the suspect was involved in a previous incident in Israel where he placed a bomb under the vehicle of a victim. As a result of the explosion, five people sustained serious injuries.
The police spokesperson said that the suspect had been under Interpol’s Red Notice since 2015. “He is a wanted suspect in Israel for conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder,” she said.
