Man assaults South African police officer in full uniform in Durban
A video showing a man assaulting a policeman in full uniform in Durban has gone viral on social media.
The incident happened on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, in Springs, Durban. The policeman was conducting a routine with his female colleague when he was attacked by a man from a group of five people who were drinking in public.
The man resisted arrest and pushed the officer, who fell to the ground. He then fled, but was apprehended and charged with assaulting a police officer; he will appear in Springs Magistrates Court.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said, “The police in Springs arrested a suspect who had assaulted a police officer following a confrontation during a routine patrol on Tuesday, December 20, 2022.”
“The incident was recorded on video that is currently circulating on social media.
“It is reported that two members on routine patrol came across about five people drinking in public. When the police warned them about public drinking, one of the men turned on the male police officer. The suspect then fled the scene. A backup was called, and the suspect was arrested later in the evening.
“He has been charged with assaulting a police officer, and he will appear before the Springs Magistrates Court.”
