Motsepe and Agri SA will help black farmers in South Africa
Black farmers in South Africa will receive a R70 million from Motsepe and Agri SA
Agri SA and the Motsepe Foundation yesterday announced a R70 million funding increase for two farming initiatives in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, a nation where aspiring farmers face economic difficulties.
“Reimagine development funding and foster greater collaboration to accelerate the inclusivity of the agricultural sector” is how Agri SA’s subsidiary Agri Enterprises describes its partnership with the Motsepe Foundation.
Two or more independent farming initiatives will receive a total of R70 million in the first phase of the initiative. The Motsepe Foundation gave the R70 million to the businesses through a company owned by the Motsepe family. This was done for legal and tax reasons, as well as because the businesses were businesses.
Motsepe and Agri SA will help black farmers in South Africa: For starters, there are the joint projects that came about after Greater Tenbosch won its land claim in Mpumalanga. On this land, three joint ventures have been set up to grow cane, and the consumer goods company RCL Foods is the only one funding them at the moment. They have been a key partner in this project.
A Majeje Citrus, a collaboration between the Majeje Traditional Authority, Komati Fruit, and Absa, was also formed.
Agri SA says that with the money from Agri Enterprises and the Motsepe Foundation, the community will be able to improve its property and help develop South Africa’s most successful agricultural product.
Around 5700 people will be affected by the two projects, which will create or sustain approximately 1 500 seasonal and permanent jobs.
