South African Pastor Threatens Teachers and Community with Machetes and Assault Rifle in Viral Video
In a shocking viral video circulating on social media, Prophet Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeng, a well-known South African pastor, is seen wielding machetes and threatening teachers and community members at Matshidiso Primary School in Katlehong. Another individual, believed to be his bodyguard, is seen holding an AK-47.
The incident, which took place on Monday, August 5, stems from an ongoing family conflict over the custody of two young boys enrolled at Matshidiso Primary School. According to the Gauteng Department of Education, Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, the conflict has been escalating since the children’s mother passed away in April, leading to a dispute between the paternal and maternal sides of the family.
On the day of the incident, the father of the children had a meeting with the school principal in the morning. Later in the day, the maternal grandmother, who is the alleged guardian of the children, also met with the principal to report and inform him about a conflict that occurred during a meeting at the paternal grandfather’s house over the past weekend. The paternal grandfather is identified as Pastor Paseka Mboro.
The situation escalated when the Deputy Principal and some staff members refused to release the children without the grandmother’s permission. This led to the pastor arriving at the school with bodyguards and weapons. The video shows the pastor armed with two machetes while another man, presumed to be his bodyguard, is seen carrying an assault rifle. The incident unfolded in the afternoon after school when the father of the children arrived to fetch them, accompanied by the pastor and his armed bodyguard.
The Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture & Recreation, Matome Chiloane, has condemned the incident, calling it reprehensible and unacceptable.
Sources indicate that Prophet Paseka Mboro Motsoeng sought refuge at the Katlehong North police station following threats from the community. A video shows him smiling behind a police desk without being arrested, sparking further outrage and questions about police conduct in handling the incident.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and raised serious concerns about safety and security at schools, as well as the role of community leaders in escalating or resolving conflicts.
