Female South African Soldier Sparks Outrage After Viral TikTok Video in Military Uniform
Johannesburg – 7 August 2025
A female South African soldier has ignited a wave of public backlash after a viral TikTok video showed her dancing and partially undressing while wearing a military uniform. The video, which was uploaded by the TikTok user @phindileslepe, has spread rapidly across social media platforms, with many South Africans voicing concern over the conduct of uniformed personnel.
In the footage, the woman—believed to be in her 30s—can be seen standing confidently indoors, wearing a South African National Defence Force (SANDF) camouflage jacket and a blue beret. As music plays, she dances and gradually removes her military-issued trousers, revealing casual clothing underneath.
The SANDF released an official statement shortly after the video went viral, warning all service members against inappropriate behavior while in uniform.
“All SANDF members are expected to uphold the highest standards of discipline. Using the uniform for TikTok videos or any social media content that undermines military values is unacceptable,” the statement read.
The South African military emphasized that disciplinary action may be taken against any soldier found misusing their uniform or damaging the image of the armed forces.
While some online users praised the soldier for her confidence and modern expression, others accused her of disrespecting the uniform and breaching military discipline. The video has reopened debates on soldier conduct in the digital age and the limits of personal freedom when serving in the armed forces.
The SANDF has not confirmed whether an investigation is underway or what consequences—if any—the soldier will face.
As the controversy continues to trend, the incident highlights the growing tension between social media visibility and professional codes of conduct, especially in government and defense sectors.
